Aamir Khan Admits Rs 200 Crore Budget Mistake on Laal Singh Chaddha

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has openly admitted that his overconfidence destroyed Laal Singh Chaddha, revealing the film’s staggering Rs 200 crore budget was a critical error that contributed to its box office failure. The perfectionist actor acknowledged he abandoned his usual economic prudence while producing the 2022 drama.

Overconfidence Led to Financial Miscalculation

In a candid interview with Komal Nahta on YouTube channel Game Changers, Khan explained his departure from standard budgeting practices. “I have a habit of putting every film I produce through an economic filter. Unfortunately, I didn’t put Laal Singh Chaddha through that filter,” he confessed. The actor attributed this lapse to overconfidence following multiple consecutive hits.

Khan’s impressive track record before 2018’s Thugs of Hindostan included blockbusters like 3 Idiots, PK, and Dangal. However, this success streak created a false sense of security that proved costly.

Budget Should Have Been Under Rs 80 Crore

The actor revealed he knew Laal Singh Chaddha lacked mainstream appeal and would earn only one-third of Dangal’s Rs 385 crore domestic collection. “I knew the film will earn between Rs 100-120 crore. When you know your film will earn Rs 120 crore, you can keep your budget up to Rs 80 crore maximum,” Khan explained.

The film’s actual performance vindicated his initial instincts. Laal Singh Chaddha opened with just Rs 11 crore in India and managed only Rs 133.5 crore worldwide, making it a significant commercial disappointment. Khan’s admission highlights the importance of realistic budgeting in film production, regardless of past successes.
