Abhay Deol said Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif were
nominated as Main Actors and questioned the logic of him & Farhan demoted
to supporting actors category.
Zoya Akhtar’s
2011 super-hit film, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (ZNMD), starring Hrithik Roshan, Abhay Deol, Farhan Akhtar, Katrina Kaif and Kalki Koechlin, was a story about how
three friends plan an adventurous bachelor’s trip to Spain. Abhay Deol has come out on social media to expose the
movie-mafia and the awards show’s logic to demote him and Farhan Akhtar as
supporting actors, while Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif were nominated as main
leads.
“By industry’s logic ZNMD was a
love story”- Abhay Deol:
On his Instagram, the seldom
honest and unfiltered actor, Abhay Deol wrote how as per the industry’s logic,
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara was not a story about life and friendship but was a
love story of a boy and a girl instead.
Deol’s post read,” I would like to mention that almost all the award functions demoted me and Farhan from main leads, and nominated us as “supporting actors”. Hrithik and Katrina were nominated as “actors in a leading role”. So by the industry’s own logic, this was a film about a man and a woman falling in love, with the man supported by his friends for whatever decisions he takes,” with a still featuring the three friends from ZNMD.
This led to Deol boycotting
many award shows and he also further wrote,” There are many covert and overt
ways in which people in the industry lobby against you. In this case, it was
shamelessly overt. I off course boycotted the awards but Farhan was ok with it.
#familyfareawards”.
Although a product of nepotism himself, Abhay Deol’s revelations hints
towards the existence of movie-mafia which Kangana
Ranaut openly
claimed along with many actors and directors who are coming out with their own
stories against the division in the film industry.
