Yukti has a grave expression on her face, but she is the most mischievous on the set. In real life, she resembles my character, Karishma Singh.

Yukti Kapoor, Maddam Sir actress, on facing rejection

She had to deal with a lot of rejections, but thankfully she had the support of her parents. When she went to auditions, everyone told her, “No, Woh lead waali baat nahi hai” (You can’t be the lead actor). You don’t have a face that can be on a poster, and two years ago, posters for her show Maddam Sir were all over Mumbai.

She is not going to say they were wrong, but she had like to thank them. They instilled confidence in her and made her wonder why she couldn’t be on the poster ‘aur mere andar woh baat kyun nahi hai..’ So she worked hard and took care of herself.

When people started criticising me initially, she felt she needed to prepare herself to show them that she was more substantial than they thought. She went through a long period of struggle, and she won’t lie; there were times when she wasn’t even serious.
