A futuristic design for Indian three-wheelers, named Auto Rock, created by Rajat Sisodiya, a student from the National Institute of Design (NID), has secured a spot among the top 10 finalists in the SIAM Automotive Design Challenge-2025. This innovative concept, designed specifically for street vendors, beautifully blends nostalgia with modernity, ensuring that the essence of traditional Indian streets is preserved in the face of evolving mobility trends.

Rajat Sisodiya, a transportation and automobile designer from NID’s 2023 batch, drew inspiration from the nostalgic charm of hand-painted vehicles commonly seen in Indian streets and the spirit of community-driven mobility. Auto Rock is an attempt to merge these traditional elements with contemporary automotive design, creating a vehicle that speaks to the past while moving toward the future. The design aims to serve as a bridge between India’s artistic heritage and its rapidly modernizing infrastructure, ensuring that future generations can still connect with the cultural history of street vendors while adapting to new-age mobility trends.

Sisodiya explained that the concept of Auto Rock was born out of a desire to create a product that honors the traditional aesthetics of Indian streets while providing practical, modern solutions for street vendors. One of the standout features of Auto Rock is its flexible deck, which is integrated into the rear of the vehicle and can rotate 90 degrees. This innovative design allows vendors to use the space to showcase and sell their products efficiently, thus offering a mobile and functional work space. The design also ensures that the vendors can engage with customers comfortably and conveniently while maintaining a compact and mobile form factor.

Sisodiya’s Auto Rock has garnered attention for its ability to fuse aesthetics, functionality, and cultural preservation.
