Ayushmann Khurrana to Star as ‘Prem’ in Sooraj Barjatya’s Next Family Drama; Filming Begins November 2025

Ayushmann Khurrana is all set to collaborate with veteran filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya for the first time in a heartfelt family entertainer that is expected to go on floors in November 2025. The actor will take on the iconic role of ‘Prem’, a name closely associated with Barjatya’s filmography, in what promises to be a quintessential Barjatya-style film centered around love, emotions, and family values.

The film, which also stars Sharvari Wagh, is targeting a theatrical release in the second half of 2026. According to a report by Pinkvilla, “Ayushmann is excited to play Prem on the big screen and will begin filming from November 2025. He will be joined by Sharvari in the month of December,” said a source close to the development.

Barjatya’s upcoming project is described as a romantic family drama with a comedic touch, set against the contemporary backdrop of a nuclear family. Known for his emotionally resonant storytelling, Sooraj Barjatya is said to be finalising an ensemble cast that will include several seasoned actors, a hallmark of his previous hits.

“Sooraj Barjatya’s next is shaping up as a funny romantic saga set against the backdrop of nuclear families. The script is locked, and the maverick is now proceeding to cast the ensemble. Like always, the film will have seasoned actors on board, and the casting is underway,” the source added.

This marks Barjatya’s eighth directorial venture. Over the years, he has built a legacy of feel-good, family-centric films like Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994), Hum Saath-Saath Hain (1999), Vivah (2006), Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015), and Uunchai (2022). The name ‘Prem’ has become synonymous with his brand of cinema, having been portrayed by stars like Salman Khan and Shahid Kapoor in earlier films.

For Ayushmann Khurrana, this project adds to a diverse and ambitious lineup. He is currently gearing up for Thama, produced by Dinesh Vijan, along with a spy comedy backed by Karan Johar, and a dark comedy with Yash Raj Films (YRF). His collaboration with Barjatya marks a new direction in his career, transitioning from quirky and socially conscious films to a more traditional family genre.

Sharvari, who will join the shoot in December, is currently working on Alpha and is also in advanced talks for several major Bollywood projects. The film is expected to bring fresh chemistry to the screen, pairing Ayushmann and Sharvari together for the first time.

With expectations already building, the Ayushmann-Barjatya project is poised to be one of the most anticipated Hindi films of 2026.
