Badshah Defends Dua Lipa Remark After Backlash: ‘Not My Mindset, Yours’

Indian rapper Badshah has found himself at the center of an online controversy after a comment he made about British-Albanian pop star Dua Lipa sparked widespread criticism. What began as a seemingly lighthearted social media exchange quickly escalated, leading the rapper to issue a clarification in response to the backlash.

It all started on June 6 when Badshah posted a simple tweet: “Dua Lipa ❤️” on X (formerly Twitter), prompting fans to speculate about a possible collaboration between the Indian rapper and the international pop sensation. However, the tone of the conversation shifted drastically when a fan asked about the nature of the tweet and whether a collaboration was in the works.

Responding to the comment, Badshah wrote, “I’d rather make babies with her bro (sic),” a statement that quickly went viral and was widely perceived as inappropriate and objectifying. The remark triggered a wave of criticism across social media platforms, with many users accusing the rapper of crossing a line and making a disrespectful comment under the guise of admiration.

Facing mounting backlash, Badshah took to social media again to defend himself, calling his statement a “beautiful compliment.” He explained that the remark was not intended to be disrespectful but rather an unconventional expression of admiration. In a follow-up post, he wrote, “I think one of the most beautiful compliments that you could give to a woman that you really admire is to wish for her to mother your children. Meri soch nahi tumhari soch saamne aayi hai (Not mine but your mindset has been exposed) (sic).”

The statement aimed to turn the tables on critics, suggesting that the outrage reflected their own interpretations rather than his intent. Despite his defense, the comment remains divisive, with opinions split between those who found his remark harmless and others who see it as reinforcing problematic gender dynamics in celebrity culture.

Dua Lipa, known for global hits like Levitating, Houdini, and Training Season, has not responded publicly to the incident. The pop star last visited India in November 2023, performing in Mumbai as part of her “Radical Optimism” tour.

Meanwhile, Badshah continues to stay in the limelight with his ongoing music tours and upcoming projects. He is currently preparing for the release of his next album, Un-Finished, which has been generating buzz among fans.

Whether the controversy will have any long-term impact on his image remains to be seen. For now, the rapper appears unfazed, standing by his words while addressing the criticism head-on.
