A Year of Blockbuster Films, Political Drama and Celebrity Upheaval

The Year That Delivered Drama in Every Genre

2025 has been an unforgettable year filled with cinematic triumphs, political turmoil, and celebrity scandals that kept headlines buzzing throughout. From record-breaking box office collections to international conflicts, the year offered something for everyone—action, emotion, and plenty of controversy.

Dhurandhar’s Historic Box Office Achievement

Filmmaker Aditya Dhar dominated the entertainment landscape with his directorial venture Dhurandhar, which crossed the ₹700 crore mark in India and is heading toward becoming the first Hindi film to cross ₹800 crores domestically. The film’s phenomenal success overshadowed other releases and redefined box office expectations. Meanwhile, Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda’s debut film Saiyaara created an unexpected phenomenon, becoming the highest-grossing debutante-led Hindi film and prompting audiences to watch it multiple times—some even bringing IV drips to theatres.

Geopolitical Tensions Reshape Entertainment

The year witnessed significant political upheaval affecting the entertainment industry. Following the Pahalgam terror attack in April, the Indian government banned Pakistani artistes from working in India and instructed OTT platforms to remove Pakistani content. Pakistani actor Fawad Khan’s film Aabeer Gulaal was blocked from releasing domestically, only finding release internationally. Additionally, tensions escalated during the Asia Cup 2025 when Indian players refused to shake hands with Pakistani counterparts and rejected the winner’s trophy from Pakistan’s federal minister.

Celebrity Milestones and Personal Upheaval

The year also brought personal transformations for celebrities. Zendaya confirmed her engagement to Tom Holland with a diamond ring at the Golden Globes, while cricketer Hardik Pandya found love again with model Maheika Sharma following his divorce. Conversely, high-profile wedding cancellations like Smriti Mandhana and Palash Muchhal’s—cancelled just a day before the ceremony—captured public attention and sparked debates about relationships and trust.
