Bombay HC Restores Centre’s 2020 Plea on Kanjur Land

In a recent development, the Bombay High Court restored a petition filed by the Central government against the State’s Revenue Minister Chandrakant Patil’s order regarding Mumbai’s salt pan land in Kanjurmarg.

Maharashtra government directed to respond on MSRDC’s delay in handing over land for burial ground

Additionally, during a hearing for a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Mohammed Furqan Mohammed Ali Qureshi, the Bombay High Court directed the Maharashtra government to explain why the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) had not transferred possession of land earmarked for a Muslim burial ground in Bandra (West). Despite a notification issued on September 29, 2021, designating the land for this purpose, possession has not yet been transferred to the BMC, as confirmed by Senior Advocate Anil Sakhare representing the BMC.

Confusion arises over MSRDC’s tender notice for site redevelopment

The petitioner also brought to light that the MSRDC had issued a tender notice inviting bids for the redevelopment of the site. However, the High Court bench expressed confusion regarding which site the tender notice referred to and requested clarity from all parties involved in the case.

PIL hearing scheduled for February 22

The Bombay High Court has scheduled the PIL hearing for February 22, allowing for further examination of the issues raised and potential resolutions to ensure proper land usage and adherence to legal procedures.
