Supreme Court seeks a report from the Maharashtra
Police on the investigation of SSR’s alleged suicide, Bihar CM’s request for a
CBI probe accepted by the Centre.
On Wednesday, the Supreme Court
of India sought a status report from Maharashtra Police on the investigation
into the alleged suicide of actor Sushant
Singh Rajput. On the
petition filed by Rhea Chakraborty, SSR’s rumored girlfriend, seeking transfer of the
case from Patna to Mumbai, the SC bench, led by Justice Hrishikesh Roy asked
Maharashtra, Bihar and SSR’s father to file their replies.
Bihar CM Nitish Kumar’s request
for a CBI probe, accepted by the Centre:
As per news agency PTI, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre, during the hearing told the apex court that the Centre accepted Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s request for a CBI probe into the mysterious death of Sushant Singh Rajput. Sushant, aged 34, died due on June 14 after he was found hanging from the ceiling of his apartment in suburban Bandra in Mumbai. The Supreme Court bench stated that the truth behind the mysterious death of actor needs to come out, the bench said,” Truth should come out so far as the actor’s death is concerned”.
Quarantining Bihar Police
didn’t send a good message, says SC:
Last week, the Bihar Police
registered an FIR against Rhea along with her family members on the charge of
abetment of suicide, criminal breach of trust, cheating, wrongful confinement,
and criminal intimidation. KK Rajput (Sushant’s father) had filed a complaint
against Rhea after over a month of his son’s passing, and his lawyer in the SC
hearing claimed that Maharashtra Police was destroying evidence in the matter.
SP Vinay Tiwari (Bihar Police), who was leading the team from Patna to
investigate the case in Mumbai, was put into home quarantine by the BMC,
halting the investigation. The Supreme Court admitted that quarantining the
lead investigator from Bihar Police did not send a good message and ordered a
status report from the Maharashtra Police.
