Chrisann Pereira, an actor jailed on April 1 in Sharjah on drug charges, shared in a letter the problematic experiences she faced during her time in prison, such as washing her hair with laundry detergent and making coffee with toilet water.
After being detained for 26 days, Pereira was released on Wednesday and is expected to return to India soon.
“Dear Warriors, it took me three weeks and five days in jail to find a pen and paper. I watched Bollywood films with tears in my eyes after washing my hair with Tide and making coffee with toilet water, knowing that my ambition had brought me here.
I occasionally smile at our society, our films, and the familiar faces on television. “I am proud to be Indian and to be a part of the Indian film industry,” she wrote.
She expressed her gratitude towards her family, friends, the police, churches, the media, and all those who believed in her innocence.
She acknowledged them as the true warriors while she considered herself a mere pawn in the game played by the “Mansters”.
Chrisann Pereira thanked everyone who tweeted and shared her story to help arrest the real criminals involved in international organized crime. She expressed her eagerness to return home to a mighty nation.
I am grateful to you for rescuing not just my life but also the lives of other innocent people who were victimized by this scam. Let justice always prevail.
On April 1, Pereira was imprisoned in Sharjah due to allegations made by Anthony Paul, a bakery owner from Borivali.
Paul framed Pereira in a drug-related case by having his friend, Rajesh Borate, impersonate a talent manager named Ravi and approach Pereira, who had previously acted in movies such as Sadak 2 and Batla House.
It is alleged that Borate impersonated Ravi and asked Pereira to attend an audition for an international web series in Sharjah. He apparently arranged and paid for her travel and accommodation.
However, on the day of her departure, Borate allegedly gave Pereira a souvenir that contained drugs. He then informed the Sharjah police, who subsequently arrested the actor.
According to an investigation by the Mumbai Crime Branch, Paul was reportedly angry at Pereira’s mother after a disagreement they had during the COVID-19 outbreak and planned to seek revenge.
In addition to Pereira, he attempted to falsely accuse four others of drug-related offences. One of those individuals, Clayton Rodrigues, is currently incarcerated in Sharjah Prison. Paul and Borate have been apprehended by the authorities.
