Gujarat reports 95 fresh Covid-19 cases, active cases rise to 397

Gujarat recorded 95 new Covid-19 cases on Monday, pushing the total active cases in the state to 397. This surge includes two recent Covid-related deaths in Ahmedabad, highlighting ongoing concerns amid the fresh wave of infections.

In Ahmedabad, 50 new Covid cases were reported within the past 24 hours, raising the city’s active cases to 197. Of these, 72 patients are hospitalised, while 125 are recovering under home isolation. The north-west zone remains the most affected, with 61 active cases, followed by the west zone with 53. The southwest zone has 37 cases, south zone 22, east zone 16, and both central and north zones have four active cases each.

Tragically, an 18-year-old pregnant woman died after testing positive for Covid-19. She was admitted to LG Hospital two days prior with respiratory complications before testing positive. This marks the second Covid-related death in Ahmedabad following the recent rise in infections.

The first fatality involved a 47-year-old woman from the Danilimda area, who was admitted to LG Hospital on May 23 due to hypertension and high blood pressure. She later tested positive for Covid-19 and succumbed to the illness.

Despite the rising case numbers, 16 Covid-19 patients in Ahmedabad were discharged from hospitals on Monday, reflecting recoveries amid the surge.

At the state level, of the 397 active Covid cases, 22 patients are hospitalised and 375 are in home isolation. Across Gujarat, 36 patients were discharged on Monday, signaling ongoing recovery efforts.

Health officials continue to monitor the situation closely, urging residents to adhere to Covid-appropriate behaviour, including wearing masks in crowded places, maintaining hygiene, and getting vaccinated as recommended.

The recent fatalities and rising infections serve as reminders that vigilance remains crucial even as many restrictions have eased. Authorities are prepared to respond swiftly to any further increase in cases to safeguard public health.

Residents experiencing Covid symptoms or respiratory issues are advised to seek medical care promptly. The government continues to emphasise vaccination, testing, and early treatment as the best tools to manage the pandemic’s evolving challenges in Gujarat.
