Congress Fields Six Rajya Sabha Candidates; Singhvi Re-nominated from Telangana

The Indian National Congress on Thursday released its list of six candidates for the upcoming biennial Rajya Sabha elections, scheduled for March 16 across ten states. The announcement includes senior sitting MP and noted advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who has been re-nominated from Telangana alongside Vem Narender Reddy, an advisor to Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. The remaining nominees are Phulo Devi Netam from Chhattisgarh, Karamvir Singh Boudh from Haryana, Anurag Sharma, and M. Christopher Tilak from Tamil Nadu.

Reddy Offers Thanks to Party Leadership

Upon receiving his nomination, Vem Narender Reddy took to social media to express his gratitude toward the Congress high command. He specifically thanked Sonia Gandhi, party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, among other senior leaders, for entrusting him with the candidacy.

Seats Vacated as Member Terms Near End

The elections have been necessitated by the conclusion of terms for 37 sitting Rajya Sabha members representing Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Telangana. These seats will fall vacant in April, prompting the current election cycle.

The Election Commission issued the official notification on February 26. The deadline for filing nominations was March 5, with scrutiny set for March 6 and the last date for withdrawals on March 9. Votes will be counted on the same day as polling, with results expected by 5 PM on March 16.
