Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu joins Protesting wrestlers

Navjot Singh Sidhu, a Congress lawmaker, joined protesting wrestlers against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on Monday.

Navjot Singh Sidhu stated on Twitter that the struggle is for the “honour, integrity, as well as dignity of every woman.” He also advocated for the WFI chief’s arrest and detention.

In reply to why the FIR against Brij Bhushan was delayed, Sidhu stated, “To know what is right and also not to do is the worst cowardice.” “Not making the FIR public reflects that the FIR is moderate and does not corroborate the complainant’s complaint….. purpose is dubious, and the goal is to shield the accused…… “Are things being swept under the rug?” said the Congress leader.

“…Why is the officer who delayed the FIR not being tried under Section 166 of the IPC as he was duty bound to register an FIR, which is mandatory in case of a cognizable offence as per The Hon’ble Supreme Court’s Lalita Kumari vs Govt of UP judgement?” he said.

On April 28, six days after prominent wrestlers from across the country, including Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, protested at Jantar Mantar, the Delhi police registered two FIRs against Brij Bhushan.

As per the police, the first FIR is filed under the POCSO Act, as well as relevant IPC sections, based on allegations made by a minor; the second FIR is filed to conduct “comprehensive investigations into the complaints tendered by other complainants under the sections about outraging of modesty.”

Sidhu asked, “Cases registered under POCSO Act are non-bailable….. why no arrest so far?” Is the law different for the rich and powerful? Why is the man in question still in a position of power and authority that can make or ruin anyone’s career?”

“…With him at the helm, a fair investigation is impossible.” The nation recognizes that committee formations just delay and divert…”Custodial Interrogation” is the only path forward to a real investigation and uncovering the truth; without it, a fair probe is pointless,” Sidhu tweeted.

“If women of high esteem as well as achievement who have taken glory to the nation are treated so shabbily, imagine the fate of those on the streets,” he continued.

Following the Supreme Court’s orders on Sunday, the Delhi police offered security to the female wrestlers, including a minor, who accused the WFI chief of sexual harassment.

Officials have also encouraged the complainants to record their statements as soon as possible so that additional inquiries into the situation can be carried out.
