Congress Leader R V Devraj Dies of Cardiac Arrest in Mysuru

Karnataka Congress leader and former MLA R V Devraj passed away due to cardiac arrest in Mysuru on Monday night, just two days before his 68th birthday. The veteran politician, who had been visiting Mysuru for personal reasons, collapsed at a private hotel and was rushed to Apollo Hospital before being shifted to Jayadeva Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

A Legacy of Public Service

Devraj was a three-time Congress MLA who represented both Chamrajpet and Chickpet Assembly segments during his political career. His extensive experience in public administration included serving as the chairman of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC). He also held the position of chairman of the Karnataka Slum Development Board in 2016 during Siddaramaiah’s first term as Chief Minister, where he focused on improving living conditions for marginalized communities.

Tributes Pour In from Party Leadership

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar expressed their condolences, emphasizing Devraj’s significant contributions to the Congress party. Siddaramaiah stated that Devraj was “an asset to Congress,” while Shivakumar highlighted his role as a leader dedicated to backward class welfare. Devraj’s childhood friend Parashuram revealed that the leader had plans to celebrate his birthday with a surprise party, complete with banners and decorations already installed in his constituency. He was scheduled to visit Himavad Gopalaswamy Hills the following morning before the tragic incident.
