Ranveer Singh will play the cricketer in the film. Earlier this week, the trailer for Ranveer Singh’s 83 was released. The film, directed by Kabir Khan and starring Ranveer Singh as cricketer Kapil Dev. He is based on Team India’s first World Cup victory in 1983.
Pankaj Tripathi, Boman Irani, Hardy Sandhu, Ammy Virk. And even Deepika’s performance as Romi Bhatia are among the star-studded cast members. Deepika’s role in the film was also hinted at in the trailer. As she stands by Kapil in times of adversity and triumph.
After the trailer’s release, Kapil was asked about his family’s reaction to seeing Deepika play Romi. He told The Quint that the family’s responses have been mixed. I think mixed because I’m not sure how much my wife’s role is in 83, so one doesn’t realize what they’re trying to do there,” he said.
However, Kapil also referred to Ranveer as a “great actor” and seemed impressed by his performance in the film.
On her chat, Director Kabir Khan revealed to Neha Dhupia how Ranveer met Kapil and his family in Delhi to prepare for the role. “Romiji (Kapil’s wife Roni) and Kapil Dev are the most gracious hosts; they always say, ‘our house is always open for you.'” Many people say that that is something that I don’t think you should take it seriously.
But Ranveer and I had just arrived. I recall Ranveer Singh said,’ sir, hum beth Jayenge, aap meeting kariye (we will wait, please continue with your meetings), we’ll be fly on the wall. He said that Ranveer Singh’s mere kamre mein betha hai toh koi fly on the wall nahi hone wala. For example, koi meeting nahi hogi (How can meetings take place here when Ranveer Singh is in my room?)”
