Kuberaa Box Office Day 1: Dhanush-Nagarjuna Film Opens Strong with ₹13 Crore

Kuberaa, the much-anticipated Telugu crime-thriller starring Dhanush, Nagarjuna, and Rashmika Mandanna, released in theatres on June 20 and opened to a strong start at the box office. According to early estimates by Sacnilk.com, the film earned approximately ₹13 crore on its opening day across all languages.

Directed by Sekhar Kammula, Kuberaa received largely positive reviews from critics and audiences, particularly for Dhanush’s intense and emotionally charged performance. While the Day 1 collection is slightly below Dhanush’s last release Raayan—which earned ₹15.7 crore—the steady rise in occupancy through the day indicates growing momentum.

On Friday, the film recorded an overall Telugu occupancy rate of 57.36%, climbing from 38.94% in morning shows to 57.04% in the evening. With such strong engagement from regional audiences and positive word-of-mouth circulating, the film is expected to show upward growth over the weekend.

In the Hindi market, Kuberaa is facing stiff competition from Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par, which also hit screens on June 20 and brought in ₹11.50 crore on its opening day. Still, Kuberaa’s unique appeal as a gritty, socially rooted crime-thriller appears to have found a firm foothold in the South Indian market, where both Dhanush and Nagarjuna command a strong following.

Also featuring Jim Sarbh in a key role, Kuberaa blends political intrigue, organized crime, and human emotion. Its layered narrative and visual treatment have been widely appreciated, adding depth to its box office potential.

On release day, Dhanush made a surprise appearance at Chennai’s Rohini Silver Screens, accompanied by his son Linga, to witness the film’s first public screening. The actor, visibly emotional, was overwhelmed by the audience’s enthusiastic response and thanked fans for their continued support.

Before its release, Kuberaa was cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with a UA rating. The film underwent 19 cuts, resulting in a trimmed runtime—13 minutes and 41 seconds shorter than the original version.

As the weekend approaches, trade analysts are optimistic about the film’s commercial trajectory. If current trends hold, Kuberaa could emerge as one of the strongest South Indian box office performers of the season.
