Zoya Akhtar spoke out on the nepotism debate and
said she would not change her career or parents.
A few days ago, actress Kangana
Ranaut took jibes
at director Zoya Akhtar and her much loved and awarded film “Gully Boy”. Zoya responded to the comments made by Ranaut and
spoke about the nepotism debate. Zoya while talking in an interview with India
Today TV said that Kangana is entitled to her opinion and that she is not
bothered by the heavy criticism. Zoya also curtly dismissed the question of
whether she would invite he actress to her parties in the future., by saying
that Kangana had openly criticized her work.
“Why to bother about the
awards?” asks Zoya:
Kangana Ranaut had questioned the sanctity of the award shows after the majority of them were given to Zoya’s Gully Boy. Speaking on the issue, Zoya pointed out the fact that Kangana herself boycotted awards shows, so why did she now suddenly start talking about who deserves to win. Zoya said,” I did not go for the award ceremonies, for starters, and it’s not important. She herself has boycotted the awards so I don’t know why she keeps talking about them.”
Nepotism is in every industry

The filmmaker also spoke
honestly on her opinion of the nepotism debate and said that if a person invests money on
their child is termed nepotism, “then in every industry there is nepotism”.
Zoya stated,” If I am a barber and I have a barbershop, am I going to leave it
to my son, or am I going to leave it to the best barber in the city? And that’s
the bottom line.”
Zoya admitted that she has the
privilege to do the work she wants to do and only because some people have an
issue with that, she won’t change her film career or parents.
