DRI and Gujarat ATS seize ₹80cr of smuggled gold in Ahmedabad Raid

Ahmedabad raid: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence and Anti-Terrorism Squad retrieved almost 88 kg of smuggled gold valued at ₹80 crore, 11 luxury timepieces, and ₹1.37 crore in cash. 

Major Crackdown on Smuggling Operations

In a joint operation, officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) conducted Ahmedabad raid, recovering smuggled gold worth ₹80 crore, luxury watches, and cash worth ₹1.37 crore. This operation marks a significant blow to illicit economic activities in India, according to a statement from the Finance Ministry.

Details of the Ahmedabad Raid

Based on intelligence inputs from the Gujarat ATS, officials conducted a search operation in a residential flat in the Paldi area of Ahmedabad on March 17, 2025.

Items Recovered:

  • Gold Bars: 87.92 kg of gold valued at approximately ₹80 crore, with many bars bearing foreign markings, indicating smuggling origins.
  • Luxury Watches: 11 high-end watches, including brands like Patek Philippe (diamond-studded), Jacob & Co, and Franck Muller.
  • Jewellery: 19.66 kg of diamond-studded jewellery, along with precious and semi-precious stones.
  • Cash Seized: Around ₹1.37 crore in cash was also recovered from the premises.

Recent DRI and Coast Guard Seizure of Hashish Oil

Earlier this month, on March 7, 2025, the DRI, in collaboration with the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), seized 29.954 kg of Hashish Oil worth ₹33 crore from a tug-barge vessel sailing towards the Maldives.

  • The vessel, which had departed from Tuticorin Old Port, was intercepted off the Kanyakumari coast and escorted back for investigation.

Strengthening India’s Fight Against Smuggling

This operation demonstrates the commitment of Indian agencies to combating smuggling, economic crimes, and threats to national security. Officials have stated that further investigations are underway to track down individuals involved in these illicit activities.
