DRI seize narcotics worth 70cr at the Mumbai airport

Based on specific intelligence that drugs were mulled into India by a passenger coming from Addis Ababa to Mumbai, surveillance was climbed by a team of officials from DRI, MZU at the CSMI Airport.

In a vital interception, the DRI Mumbai squad seized many narcotics valued at 70 crores in the illegal global market. DRI officers are checking passengers led to a crackdown on narcotic smuggling wherein about 10 KG of heroin has been recovered at Mumbai International Airport.

The unit of DRI officials intercepted the suspect man in the morning hours of 19th March, and a thorough investigation of the passenger’s bags resulted in the seizure of 9.97 kg of heroin hidden in the luggage brought by the said passenger. The illegal global market value of the contraband is around Rs.70 Crores.

During the initial interrogation, the passenger admitted that he was to hand over the trolley suitcase to a person in a hotel in Mumbai. 

Accordingly, a trap was set to arrest the person who would appear to take the delivery of the heroin. The officials could arrest a Nigerian national who had turned up at the hotel to accept the delivery.

Small amounts of cocaine and heroin were recovered from the home of the Nigerian national. The passenger and the Nigerian local, a member of the global drug syndicate liable for the contraband smuggling, have been charged and remanded to DRI Custody. Further inquiry into the case is in progress.
