India’s death toll rose to 44,386 and its tally surges to 22,15,075 after a fresh rise of 62,064 infections.

On Monday, former President of India Pranab Mukherjee tested positive for the novel COVID-19 virus. The ex-president had gone to the hospital for a separate procedure and he got diagnosed with the deadly disease. Mukherjee took to his Twitter to reveal the news and urged everyone who came in contact with him in the last week, to self-isolate and get tested for the coronavirus.

1007 patients die in 24 hours in the biggest single-day toll due to Coronavirus:

Till Monday at 9 am, India reported its biggest single-day rise in the total number of deaths with over 1000 fatalities. A total of 1007 patients passed away due to the Coronavirus, taking the country’s death toll to 44,386. Deaths in the country have been ranging between 800-900 in the past week and this steep rise is alarming. For a fourth consecutive day, fresh daily cases rose by over 60,000, with 62,064 new infections reported in the last 24 hours. The total caseload in India has now increased to 22,15,075.

Recovery rate goes past 69%:

As per the data latest data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 15,35,744 patients have recovered from the fatal virus, and the total number of active coronavirus cases stood at 634,945. The recovery rate in the country improved to 69.33 percent. Meanwhile, globally, more than 19.9 million people have been infected with the deadly disease with over 731,000 deaths. The United States remains the worst-affected COVID-19 country in the world with cases over 5 million. The country has added over a million cases in a little over two weeks.
