A day after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath suggested a Central Investigation Bureau (CBI) investigation into the alleged gang-rape and murder of a Dalit woman who was 19-year-old in the Hathras district of the state.

The statements of the family members of the victim were reported by a special investigation team (SIT) on Sunday.

As CBI was requested to take over, the SIT team headed by senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Bhagwan Swaroop continues with its investigation.

However, the family of the victim is not in favour of the study of CBI and wants a judiciary probe to be carried out in the case, which has caused outrage and widespread demonstrations.

The SIT team presently in the village of Hathras’ Boolgarhi interacts with the people concerned and says, “Anyone who wants to send a comment is welcome.”

On Thursday, the team had previously interacted with the villagers and visited at the crime spot as well.

The woman was raped on September 14 by four “upper caste” men after she was admitted to Aligarh Muslim University’s Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College after she had been left partially paralyzed.

She was later revealed to New Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital, where she expired on Tuesday.

Against the wish of her family members, the woman’s body was forcefully cremated by the UP police the next day at 2:30 am.

One of her relatives said on Saturday, “We lied across in front of the ambulance but were removed, and the cremation was violently done at night.”
The opposition has been charging the retirement of the chief minister.

However, Adityanath has assured the culprits of the most stringent punishment. The Central Bureau of Investigation ( CBI) is recommending the case for an intensive investigation of the unfortunate Hathras incident and all the relevant points @UPGovt The case is recommended.

We are ready to give all those responsible for this incident the harshest punishment, “he wrote on Twitter.
