Five Indian Cricket Legends With Only One ODI Century

Despite India’s dominance in ODI cricket, with Virat Kohli leading globally with 51 centuries and legends like Sachin Tendulkar (49) and Rohit Sharma (32) setting records, several iconic Indian cricketers managed just a single century in their ODI careers.

World Cup Heroes: Kapil Dev and Gavaskar

Captain Kapil Dev, who led India to its maiden World Cup triumph in 1983, scored only one ODI century across 225 matches. His memorable 175 against Zimbabwe during the 1983 World Cup remains one of cricket’s most celebrated innings, helping India recover from a precarious position.

Similarly, opening legend Sunil Gavaskar, despite amassing over 10,000 Test runs, reached triple figures just once in ODIs. His century came against New Zealand during the 1987 World Cup at Nagpur, showcasing his adaptability to the limited-overs format.

The Technical Masters: Vengsarkar and Manjrekar

Dilip Vengsarkar, a Test stalwart with 17 centuries, managed only one ODI hundred in 129 matches. His century against New Zealand in 1988 stood alongside 23 half-centuries, demonstrating consistent but not explosive batting in the shorter format.

Technically sound batsman Sanjay Manjrekar scored his lone ODI century against South Africa in 1991. Despite playing 74 ODIs and registering 15 fifties, his careful approach perhaps limited his century count.

All-rounder Robin Singh, a crucial middle-order batsman during the 1990s, featured in 136 ODIs but recorded just one century against Sri Lanka in 1997. His contributions often came through vital partnerships rather than individual brilliance.

These players prove that ODI centuries don’t define cricket legends, as their overall contributions to Indian cricket remain immeasurable.
