Till Thursday at 9 am, India reported a huge spike in the number of daily COVID-19 cases with new 66,999 infections. This took the nation’s Coronavirus tally to 2,396,637. Deaths in the country have been ranging 800-900 per day and in the last 24 hours, new 942 deaths were registered, which rose the death toll from 46,091 to 47,033. As per the latest data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, a total of 16,95,982 patients have recovered from the novel COVID-19 virus, and active cases in the country increased to 653,622. This meant that the recovery rate in India rose to 70.76 percent. 

Ram Temple head tests Coronavirus positive:

Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, the chief of Ram Mandir Trust, has tested positive for the novel COVID-19 virus. The chief had shared the stage with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, on August 5, during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. He has been hospitalized in Vedanta Hospital of Mathura and Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath has personally urged the doctor to provide immediate medical attention.

Supreme Court may resume holding physical hearings from next week:

With additional safety measures in place, by next week, Supreme Court may resume holding physical hearings in at least two or three of the 15 benches. This has been suggested by a committee of seven Supreme Court judges, who monitored the situation recently. The 7-judge panel headed by senior-most judge Justice N V Ramana, in the last week of July had assured the Bar leaders to review the status and situation of the pandemic in two weeks.

Globally, 20.6 million people have been infected with the deadly disease and over 749,000 patients have succumbed to death.
