Gujarat Congress Sets Goal to Add 10,000 Women Members

The Congress party has set an ambitious target to increase its women members by 10,000 in Gujarat this year, with a focus on strengthening the party at the grassroots level. National Mahila President Alka Lamba, speaking at the oath-taking ceremony of Gujarat Pradesh Women’s Congress President Gita Patel on Wednesday, announced plans to induct at least 10 women members at every polling booth. “We aim to register more women in the Women’s Congress in Gujarat. If each woman member inducts 10 women at every booth, it will significantly strengthen the party from the booth level,” Lamba explained. Additionally, she revealed that a leadership training program will be launched soon to empower and educate women members.

The Women’s Congress plans to use this initiative to fight for women’s rights in political, social, and economic spheres. Lamba emphasized that the training program will extend to women across Gujarat, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to actively participate in politics and societal change. The aim is to ensure that women’s issues are better represented and addressed within the political landscape.

Gita Patel, while accepting her new role as President of Gujarat Pradesh Women’s Congress, spoke passionately about the responsibility the position carries. She stated that her role would focus on raising the voices of women, fighting for their rights, and working towards building an equal and just society. “I resolve to fulfill this trust with complete sincerity and honesty,” Patel affirmed.

The meeting also raised concerns about the BJP government’s record on women’s rights in Gujarat. Lamba criticized the government for failing to protect women’s rights and pointed out that the Women’s Reservation Bill was only introduced on paper during the last Lok Sabha elections. “Congress demands that the Women’s Reservation Bill be implemented without further delay,” Lamba asserted, emphasizing the party’s commitment to advocating for women’s empowerment through legislative reforms.

This initiative is seen as a step towards giving women a more prominent role in political decision-making and ensuring their issues are prioritized.
