In another crackdown on illegal liquor trafficking, the Gujarat Police State Monitoring Cell (SMC) prohibition team conducted a high-stakes raid on May 3 near the Godhra-Baroda Highway.

Kalol Police Crack Down on Interstate Liquor Smuggling Operation

A major police operation led to the seizure of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth over ₹30 lakh and the arrest of one individual, while six others remain absconding. The raid, based on specific intelligence, uncovered a large-scale smuggling operation involving multiple suspects across state borders.

Massive Seizure During Targeted Raid

During the operation, police confiscated:

  • 13,224 bottles of IMFL valued at ₹30.41 lakh
  • A vehicle worth ₹15 lakh
  • A mobile phone worth ₹5,000

The total value of the seized assets stands at ₹45.46 lakh. The consignment was intercepted before it could reach its intended destination, dealing a significant blow to the illicit liquor trade in the region.

Key Arrest and List of Absconding Accused

The arrested individual has been identified as Durgaram Bhil, a resident of Barmer district, Rajasthan. Meanwhile, authorities are actively pursuing six absconding suspects, including:

  • Bhagatsingh, a listed bootlegger from Rajasthan and alleged supplier of the liquor
  • Mahohbatsinh Chauhan of Kalol, suspected of placing the order
  • Two unidentified men in a white, numberless car suspected of piloting the smuggling truck
  • One individual believed to have aided the truck driver’s escape
  • The owner of the truck used in transporting the liquor
  • A person using a Malaysian mobile number, believed to have arranged the vehicle

Further Investigation Underway

The arrested suspect and seized materials have been handed over to Kalol Police Station for detailed investigation. Authorities have confirmed that Bhagatsingh is a repeat offender with a criminal history in bootlegging cases.

Law enforcement continues its efforts to dismantle the smuggling network and apprehend the remaining accused.
