Several sections of Gujarat saw heavy to very high rainfall in the last 24 hours, resulting in the flooding of low-lying areas in cities and villages.
According to an official, several National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have been dispatched to some of the worst-affected areas, including Kutch, Jamnagar, Junagadh, and Navsari.
Several villages and towns were inundated in Junagadh, Jamnagar, Kutch, Valsad, Navsari, Mehsana, and Surat.
According to officials, exceptionally heavy rainfall drenched various districts in the Saurashtra-Kutch and south Gujarat region districts, causing waterlogging in low-lying areas and causing villages to be flooded.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) anticipated that the intensity of the rain would begin to decrease by Saturday and that the weather in the state would begin to normalise on Sunday. However, the IMD predicts heavy rain will fall in the north and south Gujarat and Saurashtra until Sunday morning.
The state capital, Gandhinagar, was affected by major waterlogging, which created heavy traffic delays and annoyance to the people. Kutch’s Gandhidham railway station was swamped after heavy rain.
According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), Visavadar taluka in Junagadh district, 398 mm of rain fell in the previous 24 hours. SEOC said that Jamnagar, Kaprada in Valsad, Anjar in Kutch, and Khergam in Navsari were among the worst-affected locations.
On Friday night, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel called an emergency meeting with the SEOC and ordered them to focus on evacuation, rescue, and relief efforts.
According to a government announcement, Patel spoke with Junagadh and Kutch district collectors to get an update on rainfall conditions, waterlogging, evacuation, and other relief measures.
According to the IMD, light to moderate rain will persist in the state until Wednesday.
