Till Thursday, 14 Air India passengers who traveled from Delhi, tested positive for the Coronavirus, in Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong government on Friday said that fourteen passengers on an Air India flight from Delhi to Hong Kong on August 14, have tested positive for the novel COVID-19 virus. The Hong Kong government released a statement regarding the same, which revealed 14 patients testing coronavirus positive till Thursday. Further in the statement, it is stated that due to the incident, Air India’s passenger flights have been banned from landing in Hong Kong till the end of August. As per the rules issued by the Hong Kong government in July, a passenger from India must possess a negative certificate after undergoing a COVID-19 test, 72 hours before the journey, to arrive in the country.

Hong Kong barres Air India flights to land till August 31st:

A spokesperson of the Department of Health of the Hong Kong government in a statement to PTI said,” A flight operated by Air India – AI314 arriving Hong Kong from India on August 14 had 11 passengers confirmed to have infected with COVID-19. As a result, the department invoked the Prevention and Control of Disease (Regulation of Cross-boundary Conveyances and Travelers) Regulation (Cap. 599H) on August 17 to prohibit the landing of passenger flights operated by Air India for two weeks from August 18 to 31 in Hong Kong.” The spokesperson further confirmed the reports of 14 passengers testing coronavirus positive till August 20.

International travel in India has been suspended since March 23 due to the global pandemic, however, with the approval of the aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), special international flights have been operating. India’s tally of Coronavirus infections has risen to 29,05,823 and the death toll has climbed to 54,849.
