IIT Madras Dominates NIRF 2025 Rankings, Secures Top Position for Seventh Consecutive Year

IIT Madras has once again demonstrated its academic excellence by securing the top position in the Ministry of Education’s National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025. The prestigious institution claimed first place in multiple categories including overall, engineering, innovation, and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), marking its seventh consecutive year at the summit.

Universities Category Shows Consistent Leadership

In the universities category, Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore maintained its decade-long dominance, securing the top rank for the tenth consecutive year since the rankings began in 2016. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) retained its second position, while Delhi University improved from sixth to fifth place. BITS Pilani made a remarkable jump from 19th to the top 10.

Colleges Witness Significant Position Changes

The colleges category saw Hindu College and Miranda House maintaining their first and second positions respectively. However, significant movements occurred in other rankings, with Hansraj College climbing from 12th to third place, while St. Stephen’s College dropped from third to fifth position, indicating the dynamic nature of institutional performance.
