India’s ODI Squad for New Zealand Series Announcement Date Revealed

After a dominant performance against South Africa in both ODI and T20I series, Team India is preparing for its first international assignment of 2026 with New Zealand’s visit. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will announce the squad for the three-match ODI series on January 3 or 4, 2026, according to reports from The Times of India.

Leadership and Batting Lineup

Shubman Gill, who has recovered from injury and resumed training, is expected to captain the team in the upcoming series. The opening batter missed the South Africa ODI series due to injury but is now fully fit. Veteran batsmen Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will anchor the batting lineup, bringing their experience and consistency to the side. There is speculation around Shreyas Iyer’s possible return, though his inclusion remains uncertain following an injury sustained during the Australia tour.

Strong Head-to-Head Record and Recent Form

India holds a slight advantage over New Zealand in ODI cricket with 60 wins from 118 matches played, while the Black Caps have secured 50 victories. The rivalry intensifies during ICC tournaments where New Zealand frequently challenges India.

India’s recent dominance over South Africa demonstrated the team’s current form. Virat Kohli struck two centuries and a half-century in the three-match series, while Rohit Sharma impressed with aggressive batting. Kuldeep Yadav proved decisive with the ball, claiming nine wickets in three matches. Team India will look to carry this momentum into the New Zealand series, hoping to maintain their winning streak at home.
