India surpasses China and becomes the world’s most populated country 

The UN world population dashboard revealed that China currently has a population of 142.57 crores, thus being the second most populated nation after India surpasses China.

India surpasses China to become the planet’s most populated country with 142.86 crore people, which shows the latest United Nations data, also as UN projections calculate that the nation’s population is predicted to increase in the next three decades, which will start declining.

Almost 50 per cent of India’s population is under the age of 25 years, according to United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) India spokesperson Andrea Wojnar.

According to the UNFPA’s State of World Population (SWP) Report 2023, nearly 25 per cent of India’s people is in the age class of 0-14 years, 18 per cent in the 10 to 19 age level, 26 per cent in the age frame of 10 to 24 years, 68 per cent in 15 to 64 years age class and 7 per cent past 65 years.

Incidentally, the UNFPA’s SWP statement said India would overtake China by mid-2023. The population demographics of India differ from region to region.

A UN study has shown that Kerala and Punjab have an aged population while Bihar and Uttar Pradesh have young ones.
