Total 65,553 fresh infections along with 1007 new deaths, registered in India with recovery rate at 70.77 percent.

India on Friday, reported a fresh rise of 65,553 COVID-19 infections which raised its tally to over 2.45 million. The coronavirus tally in the country now stands at 2,461,190, and the death toll rose to 48,040. India registered a spike of 1007 deaths in the last 24 hours, but the case fatality rate has declined to 1.96 percent. As per the latest data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the recovery rate of India improved to 70.77 percent as the number of recoveries in the country rose to 17,51,555, with the active coronavirus case count stood at 661,595. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) revealed that the total number of samples tested on Thursday was at a record-high of 848,728. To date, 2,76,94,916 samples have been tested in the country. The most cumulative tests in the country have been carried out in the state of Uttar Pradesh, with a total of 35.97 lakh tests.

Rahul Gandhi seeks inclusive COVID vaccine strategy:

On Friday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that the government of India must ensure the availability, affordability, and fair distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine. Rahul Gandhi took to his Twitter and acknowledged that India will be one of the COVID-vaccine producing nations, and urged the government that a clearly-defined, inclusive, and equitable vaccine access strategy is the need of the hour.

Global coronavirus cases reach 20.9 million, with 756,000 deaths:

Globally, over 20.9 million people have been infected with the coronavirus, with the United States leading the list of the worst-affected nations with 5.26 million. Brazil and India are second and third respectively in the list. The US government has struck a deal with a US-based biotech company Moderna, worth $1.525 billion, for securing the supply of 100 million doses of the novel COVID-19 virus vaccine.
