International Kite Festival 2026: Gujarat’s Skies Set to Dazzle

A Celebration of Uttarayan

Every January, Gujarat’s skies transform into a canvas of colour and creativity with the International Kite Festival (IKF). Rooted in the cultural tradition of Uttarayan and coinciding with Makar Sankranti, the festival marks the end of winter and the beginning of the harvest season. Scheduled from January 10 to 14, 2026, the event promises a spectacular blend of tradition and global artistry.

Global Participation

Organised by the Gujarat Tourism Department, the festival attracts kite flyers and enthusiasts from across the world. Participants from countries including Japan, the USA, the UK, France, Australia, and Indonesia will showcase their unique, often massive, and artistically designed kites. Traditional Indian kite makers will also shine with their vibrant patangs and tukals, filling the skies with dazzling visuals.

Venues Across Gujarat

While the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad serves as the central venue, celebrations extend to multiple cities. Rajkot, Surat, Vadodara, Dwarka, and Dholavira will host events, ensuring the festival’s spirit reaches every corner of the state.
