IPL 2020 to commence on September 19 in UAE, teams to leave base by August 20.

UAE to host the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League, with the final scheduled on November 8th.

Many close sources of BCCI have informed the PTI that the much anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL)’s thirteenth season will commence on September 19 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). As per the sources, the IPL final is at present, scheduled on November 8, and that the BCCI has informally informed the franchises to be ready.

IPL franchises to leave by August 20:

The IPL Governing Council, however, will chalk out the final details next week, when it meets to officially approve the schedule. As per sources, the BCCI has alerted the franchises to leave the base by August 20, so proper quarantine rules could be followed in the UAE.

A 51-day window for IPL season 13:

A senior BCCI official on late Thursday told PTI on conditions of anonymity that IPL in all likelihood will start on Saturday, September 19th, and Sunday, November 8, the 13th season’s final will be staged. He said,” It is a 51-day window which will suit the franchises as well as the broadcasters and other stakeholders.” The decision of holding the IPL on the above-mentioned dates comes following the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) decision to postpone the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia, owing to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The Indian team will first have a 14-day mandatory quarantine: Sources said that the BCCI decided to lock the 19 September date, ensuring that the Indian team’s tour of Australia is not jeopardized. India is all set to play a four-match Test series against Australia from December 3 in Brisbane. The BCCI official also said,” The Indian team will have a mandatory quarantine of 14 days as per the Australian government rules. A delay would have sent the plans haywire. The best part is that 51 days is not at all a curtailed period and there will be much fewer doubleheaders. We could stick to the original five doubleheaders in a seven-week window.”
