Japan PM Fumio Kishida Attacked, watch

According to the news agency Reuters, a pipe-like object was thrown during the outdoor speech near Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. PM Fumio Kishida was evacuated, Japanese media stated. 

According to NHK, an explosion-like noise was heard at the scene. According to the report, Fumio Kishida took cover near the explosion site and stayed safe.

One witness said NHK that she saw something flying from behind her and that a sudden loud boom caused her to flee with her children. Another witness stated that people were screaming as well as he saw someone being detained.

As local media reported, no harm was caused to the Japanese PM during the incident. He started his election campaign again as the Nationwide local elections were happening in Japan.  

Social media videos showed officers removing a man as bystanders evacuated the scene. According to NHK, PM Fumio Kishida was starting a speech after touring a fishing harbour in the western Japanese city when the event occurred.

According to the report, a male suspected of being a suspect was captured at the scene.

The tragedy occurred just nine months after Shinzo Abe, Fumio Kishida’s predecessor, was assassinated while giving a campaign speech. Next month, Japan will host a Group of Seven (G7) leaders’ conference in Hiroshima.
