Joe Root’s captaincy era ends. Who will be England’s next captain?
In 2017 Joe Root was given Test Captaincy. Under his captaincy, England cricket showed lots of ups and downs. Crushing India in 2018, Crushing SA in 2020, Also became the first captain under which England won the first test series in Srilanka 2021. It looked like England’s next captain had to wait long.
But With highs, England shows lots of lows, too, forcing Joe root to step down from captaincy. England lost a heavy defeat against Australia. Losing in WI is the lowest point England has seen in the last two decades. Now, this raised many questions about Joe Root and his team. So everyone who knows cricket was aware Joe Root would either step down, or ECB would take his captaincy. But being a great of England cricket, ECB handled the situation well and showed like Joe Root step down as captain. No one knows the actual fact, as his captaincy was on the radar last year. Know the question is, Who will be England’s next captain? Will it be Malan? Ben Stokes or Morgan?
Looking at the form of all these players, the next England captain in tests will be Ben Stokes, and if he is not appointed as captain, then Malan is a solid contender to lead Team England in test matches. His form in the last couple of years in all three formats has been impressive. Woakes, too can be an option as test captain. These three players are looking strongest contenders who can lead England in Tests.
England will play tests against NZ in June. This series will be essential for England and the newly appointed captain. As we all know, NZ is a powerful team. To beat such a strong, England has to play their A-game. The question is who will lead from the front for England. Will it be Stokes, Malan, Morgan, or Woakes?
