Sooraj Pancholi Returns as Rajput Warrior in ‘Kesari Veer: Legends of Somnath’
The trailer of Kesari Veer: Legends of Somnath, a period drama based on the life of Rajput warrior Hamirji Gohil, was unveiled on April 29 at a grand launch event in Mumbai. The film marks Sooraj Pancholi’s comeback to the big screen, where he takes on the lead role of the legendary Gohil warrior who fought bravely against the invading Tughlaq forces to defend the sacred Somnath temple in the 14th century.
Directed by Prince Dhiman and produced by Kanubhai Chauhan under the Chauhan Studios banner, Kesari Veer promises an epic saga of courage, sacrifice, and patriotism. The story sheds light on a largely forgotten chapter of Indian history, bringing the heroics of unsung warriors like Hamirji Gohil into the spotlight.
The film also stars Suniel Shetty as Vegda Ji, a seasoned warrior and key ally in the resistance against the Tughlaqs, and Vivek Oberoi in a menacing avatar as Zafar Khan, the primary antagonist. Making her debut is Akanksha Sharma, who plays Rajal, a fearless female warrior and a significant presence in the battle to protect Somnath.
The trailer offers a glimpse into intense battle scenes, dramatic confrontations, and emotional moments that showcase the brutal reality of war and the undying spirit of those who fought for their land and faith. Shot on a grand scale with sweeping visuals and elaborate sets, Kesari Veer aims to transport the audience back to medieval India, highlighting the cultural and spiritual significance of the Somnath temple.
An emotional moment at the trailer launch saw Sooraj Pancholi tear up as he reflected on the film’s journey. “We’ve put our heart and soul into this project. It’s not just a film for us—it’s a tribute to those forgotten warriors whose sacrifices deserve to be remembered,” he said.
Suniel Shetty praised the film’s effort to honour Indian history, saying, “Kesari Veer isn’t just entertainment; it’s about reviving pride in our past and bringing our children closer to our roots.”
With a mix of historical storytelling, powerful performances, and cinematic grandeur, Kesari Veer is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated films of 2025. It will release in theatres on May 16, 2025.
As the trailer gains traction online, audiences are already expressing excitement over the film’s patriotic theme and high-octane action. For Pancholi, Kesari Veer could mark a pivotal turning point in his career, anchoring him in a role rooted in valor and heritage.
