Kevin Pietersen Praises Chinnaswamy Stadium, Pakistani Fans React With Sarcasm

Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen turned heads on social media during the opening IPL 2026 match at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium on March 28, calling it the finest cricket venue in the world. “If you love sport and the atmosphere that it brings, you HAVE TO, once in your life, come to this venue and watch an IPL game,” Pietersen wrote on X, formerly Twitter. The post quickly accumulated nearly half a million views.

Kohli Steals the Show on the Field

The match itself gave fans plenty to cheer about. Virat Kohli, 37, delivered a masterclass with an unbeaten 69 off just 38 balls, steering Royal Challengers Bengaluru to victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad. The knock instantly placed Kohli in the Orange Cap standings. Jacob Duffy was the standout bowler, claiming 3 wickets for 22 runs to earn the Player of the Match award.

Pakistani Fans Push Back Online

Others questioned the merit of T20 cricket’s atmosphere compared to Test matches, particularly those played in England and Australia. One user took a broader swipe, claiming IPL involves political interference. Yet many others, across different nationalities, agreed wholeheartedly with Pietersen’s sentiments, keeping the debate lively throughout the day.

Pietersen himself shares a deep history with RCB, having captained the side during IPL 2009 and famously recognising a young Virat Kohli’s extraordinary potential during that very season.
