Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s friendly football match with Argentine icon Lionel Messi has become the center of a political controversy. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju shared a video on X (formerly Twitter) criticizing the CM’s performance on the field, claiming he couldn’t even deliver simple passes to the football legend.

Political Jab Over Football Skills

In his post, Rijiju sarcastically wrote, “It’s totally messed up!! CM Revanth Reddy Ji got a golden chance to play with GOAT but he couldn’t even give simple pass to Messi. He kicked far left & right to make Messi run around.” The 20-second video showed Reddy passing the ball to Messi twice, with both passes going wide—left and right—instead of reaching the footballer directly, forcing the superstar to chase the ball around the ground.

The video sparked mixed reactions on social media, with supporters defending the CM’s amateur status while others criticized him for squandering the opportunity. Meanwhile, Messi extended his stay in India to visit Vantara in Jamnagar with his teammate Luis Suárez. The wildlife facility hosted the duo under tight security, with Anant Ambani, Director of Reliance Industries Limited, serving as their host. This visit adds to Vantara’s growing list of international dignitaries, including US President Donald Trump’s son and PM Modi.
