Key Takeaways:

  • India’s fiercest rival Dasun Shanaka was dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav on Thursday at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata after scoring just two runs in the current ODI.
  • Kuldeep’s continued success in taking wickets in the middle overs is a huge plus for India as the World Cup approaches later this year.

After scoring just two runs in the current ODI at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday, India’s arch-enemy Dasun Shanaka was dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav.

The wrist-spinner expertly misled the Sri Lankan captain by bowling him around the legs to prevent any explosive plays from the batter in this match.

Shanaka attempted to do what he does best: to counterattack and put the bowler under pressure, as Sri Lanka had already lost too many wickets by that point.

He attempted to sweep the Kuldeep ball for a boundary by moving inside the line of the ball as it was on the leg stump.

Though it had no turn-in because Kuldeep Yadav was shrewd enough to push the ball through, lack of turn caused Dasun Shanaka to miss the sweep, and when he turned to see his leg stump castled, he was horrified.

As soon as the batter accidentally walked into the trap laid out for him, Kuldeep could not help but smile.

Kuldeep Yadav breaks the opponent’s middle order

To think that Kuldeep was only chosen for the starting XI due to a last-minute replacement for Yuzvendra Chahal is perplexing.

The left-arm wrist-spinner continues to perform well in the few opportunities he is given despite frequently being on the wrong end of difficult selection decisions.

At one point, Sri Lanka was cruising at 102/1. It is now uncertain whether they will surpass the 200-run threshold as they are down seven wickets.

With the World Cup coming up later this year, Kuldeep’s continued picking up wickets in the middle overs is a huge plus for India.
