Western Railway has informed an ominous incident concerning unidentified people who fiddled with a fishplate and several keys on the UP line track near Kim railway station in the Vadodara Division.
A potential train disaster was narrowly avoided near Kim Railway Station in Surat when authorities detected tampering on the UP line, where fishplates and keys were removed.
Western Railway’s Vadodara Division reported the incident, stating that an unidentified individual had deliberately removed key components of the track, leading to the temporary suspension of train services in the area.
Track Tampering Details
According to Western Railway, the tampered track was discovered when officials noticed that fishplates and keys had been removed from the UP line near Kim railway station.
Fishplates, or splice bars, are metal plates that connect two rails, ensuring the continuity of the track and maintaining the alignment needed for smooth train operations.
They also help in transferring wheel loads and accommodating expansion. The track components were placed on the same line after removal, prompting immediate halting of train movements. Services resumed shortly after the tracks were secured.
LPG Cylinder on Kalindi Express Track in Kanpur
This incident comes shortly after another alarming occurrence earlier in the month. In Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district, a passenger train—the Kalindi Express—narrowly escaped an accident when the driver spotted an LPG cylinder placed on the tracks.
The train, which was en route from Prayagraj to Bhiwani in Haryana, was brought to an emergency stop, and a damaged cylinder along with other “objectionable materials” was found at the scene.
These incidents highlight the increasing concerns about track safety and potential sabotage attempts, posing significant risks to train operations and passenger safety. Authorities are investigating both incidents to prevent future threats.
