Mission Green Mumbai’s Growing Impact on Global Warming

Founded in 2010 by Subhajit Mukherjee, Mission Green Mumbai has evolved from a small group of environmental enthusiasts into a trusted organization mobilizing thousands of volunteers across India. Dedicated to reversing deforestation and environmental degradation, the organization operates under the national Environmental Programme in line with India’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Ministry of Jal Shakti mandates.

Pioneering Tree Plantation and Habitat Restoration

The organization has successfully planted over 82,000 trees, transforming barren landscapes into thriving green ecosystems that enhance biodiversity in both urban and rural areas. Mission Green Mumbai also converted 1.5 million square feet of concrete spaces into mini forests and oxygen hubs, demonstrating innovative approaches to urban greening. Their “Each One, Plant One” philosophy has mobilized 2,000+ volunteers in tree-planting drives across Mumbai and surrounding regions.

Water Conservation Driving Sustainable Development

Beyond afforestation, Mission Green Mumbai has installed 6,000+ rainwater harvesting structures across gardens, schools, and colleges, saving over 150 crore liters of water annually. The organization trained 24,000+ students in water conservation practices, building awareness among the younger generation. Their “Water for All” initiative extends compassion to stray animals, providing 2,900+ water bowls across communities.

With 19 educational institutions engaged and 75,000+ students actively participating, Mission Green Mumbai represents how community dedication and environmental stewardship can create tangible climate action at scale. As global warming remains a pressing concern, their integrated approach combining tree plantation, water conservation, and education offers a blueprint for sustainable development.
