Mustafizur Rahman Breaks Silence After Sudden KKR Release by BCCI

Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman has finally addressed his unexpected departure from the Indian Premier League following a decision made by the BCCI. Purchased by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 9.2 crore in the mini-auction, Rahman faced sudden termination from the franchise without the opportunity to showcase his talents in the upcoming tournament season.

Cricketer’s Acceptance of Board Decision

Speaking to BDCricTime, Rahman expressed his acceptance of the situation with philosophical restraint. “If they release me, there is nothing much I can do,” the accomplished pacer stated, indicating his powerlessness against the organizational decision. Rahman reportedly felt disappointed about missing the chance to participate in the premier T20 tournament.

Bangladesh Cricket Board’s Safety Concerns

The termination has triggered diplomatic complications between India and Bangladesh. Following Rahman’s release, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has been instructed by its sports ministry to request relocation of the country’s T20 World Cup league matches from India to Sri Lanka, citing player safety concerns. The request comes amid deteriorating Indo-Bangladesh relations following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s exit to India in August 2025.

Bangladesh is scheduled to play four league matches: against Windies on February 7, Italy on February 9, and England on February 14 in Kolkata, with a final match against Nepal on February 17 in Mumbai. However, according to reports, shifting these matches appears nearly impossible with only a month remaining before the tournament begins. Pakistan has already secured the arrangement to play their World Cup fixtures in Sri Lanka under a previously established understanding.
