Kolkata Knight Riders, captain Nitish Rana, was penalised for violating the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct during his team’s latest match against MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
In game No.61 of the IPL 2023 at the Chepauk, Rana’s KKR achieved a famous win over Dhoni and Co. as champions in two editions of the cash-rich tournament.
In CSK’s final home match of the IPL 2023, Rana struck a quick-fire half-century to help KKR register a much-needed win over the four-time winners.
Rana combined with an in-form Rinku Singh to help KKR defeat CSK by six wickets at the Chepauk. Following the match, KKR skipper Rana was punished by the IPL for maintaining a sluggish over-rate during his team’s encounter with CSK in Chennai.
“Because it was his team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct regarding minimum over-rate offences,” the IPL said in a statement.
“Mr Rana had been fined Rs. 24 lahks as well, as each member of the Playing XI, such as the impact substitute, has been fined Rs. 6 lahks or 25% of the match fee, whichever is less.”
Previously, Rana was fined for violating the IPL Code of Conduct following a heated duel between the great hitter and Mumbai Indians (MI) star Hrithik Shokeen during the current season of the world’s richest T20 game.
Rana acknowledged the Level 1 Offence under Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct and was fined 25% of his match money at the time.
Concerning the encounter, KKR skipper Rana smashed a quick-fire half-century (57*) against CSK at Chepauk, while Rinku hit a match-winning knock of 54 off 43 balls.
“I said at the coin toss that if all three departments perform well, our chances are good.” I have to credit Chandu sir (coach Chandrakant Pandit) for this – I opposed using the heavy roller, but he pushed.
I was afraid the pitch might split apart. However, this did not occur, and the ball did not turn much. Except for KKR, every team has a home edge,” Nitish Rana stated after the game.
