Key Takeaways:

  • As terrorism-related violence has increased, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has asked for a “critical and honest talk” with PM Narendra Modi about “burning points like Kashmir.”
  • The prime minister of Pakistan asserts that we can cooperate peacefully and advance or fight and waste resources.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has requested a “critical and honest talk” with PM Narendra Modi about “burning points like Kashmir” as terrorism-related violence has increased in Pakistan since the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) broke a ceasefire with security forces in late November.

Sharif claimed in an interview with the Arabic news outlet Al Arabiya in Dubai that the three wars with India have “only increased people’s suffering, poverty, and unemployment.”

“Allow us to sit at the table and have critical and honest discussions to resolve our burning points, like Kashmir, is my message to the Indian management and PM Modi.

According to the Pakistani prime minister, the choice is ours whether to coexist in harmony and advance or to fight and squander resources.

“We have fought 3 wars with India, and each one has only worsened people’s suffering, poverty, and unemployment. Now that we’ve learned our lesson, we want to live in peace, but for that to happen, we need to be able to deal with our real problems, he continued.

The Pakistan Muslim League leader (N) added that both nations are nuclear powers with robust militaries.

“God forbid, if a war breaks out, who will remain to report what had taken place?”

Sharif’s remark was particularly poignant when increased terrorism-related incidents, a dismal economy, and escalating political instability severely impacted Pakistan.

Foreign direct investment inflows decreased by more than 50%, totalling USD 430 million from July through November 2022, compared to USD 885 million recorded for the same period in 2021.

Imran Khan, the former PM of Pakistan, claims President Dr Arif Alvi will soon ask Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for a vote of confidence, contributing to the country’s political unrest.

The federal coalition is holding a very slim majority thanks to Dr Alvi, a member of Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).
