CM Bhupendra Patel Attends Inauguration of Redeveloped Limbdi Railway Station
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Thursday attended the virtual inauguration ceremony of 18 newly redeveloped Amrit Bharat railway stations in the state, joining from Limbdi railway station in Surendranagar district. The stations were inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi via video conferencing from Bikaner, Rajasthan.
The 18 revamped stations in Gujarat are part of the Centre’s ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, aimed at modernising railway infrastructure across the country. An official release stated that these stations include Sihor, Utaran, Dakor, Derol, Hapa, Jamjodhpur, Jamvanthali, Kanalus, Karamsad, Kosamba, Limbdi, Mahuva, Mithapur, Morbi, Okha, Palitana, Rajula and Samakhiali.
Addressing an event held at the Limbdi station, CM Patel said that the 18 Amrit Bharat stations in Gujarat have been redeveloped at a cost of ₹164 crore to offer enhanced amenities and improved travel experiences to passengers. “These stations have been upgraded with modern facilities to ensure better services for the public,” he said.
The Chief Minister highlighted that a total of 87 railway stations in Gujarat have been selected for redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, out of the 1,300 stations targeted across India. The scheme envisions transforming major and mid-sized stations with improved platforms, waiting areas, lighting, sanitation, and passenger information systems.
Patel also shared thematic details about two key redevelopment projects in the state. He said the ongoing redevelopment of the Sabarmati railway station is being carried out on the theme of the historic Dandi March, in tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s iconic civil disobedience movement. Similarly, the work at Somnath railway station is based on the cultural and religious significance of the Somnath temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlinga shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva.
The Chief Minister lauded the Union government’s efforts to enhance railway infrastructure in Gujarat and across India, saying the modernised stations would not only serve commuters better but also contribute to regional development and tourism.
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is part of the Indian Railways’ vision to upgrade station infrastructure in phases, with a focus on sustainability, accessibility, and passenger comfort.
Thursday’s nationwide inauguration included 103 stations across 24 states and union territories, symbolising a major step forward in India’s railway transformation journey.
