Police stop convoy of Rahul Gandhi in Manipur’s Bishnupur

Protests flared after a convoy of Rahul Gandhi was halted at Bishnupur. The Congress employees and locals had staged protests against the cops’ action.

After massive anger over convoy of Rahul Gandhi being stopped at Manipur’s Bishnupur, the Manipur Police has given a statement.

Bishnupur Superintendent of Police (SP) Heisnam Balram Singh stated there is a chance of a hand-grenade attack on the way the Congress head travels.

“Seeing the ground situation, we stopped him (Rahul Gandhi) from moving forward and advised him to travel to Churachandpur via helicopter. A grenade attack may occur along the highway through which VIP Rahul Gandhi is moving. Keeping his security and safety in mind, we’re not allowed him”, Singh told the press.

After the cops stopped his convoy, Rahul Gandhi was back at Imphal airport. He is probably to travel to Churachandpur by a chopper. The ex-Congress president will meet the victims at relief centres situated there.

Demonstrations erupted during Rahul Gandhi’s trip to the northeastern state. The cops had to fire tear gas bullets to scatter the protesters. The Congress cried foul after the cops stopped Gandhi.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over brutality in Manipur, blaming him for fleeing the state to protect itself.
