Rahane’s selection as captain for the first Test against New Zealand

Rahane’s selection as captain for the first Test against New Zealand

The BCCI appointed Rahane’s selection as captain of the first Test against New Zealand. While regular captain Virat Kohli returned to his second Test role.

On Saturday, former India cruiser Aakash Chopra questioned the decision to captain Ajinkya Rahane for the first Home Test against New Zealand; admitting his place in the team was a big deal in itself before the team was announced awarded.

The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) only appointed captain Rahane in Friday’s first Test. While regular captain Virat Koli will return to his role after the second Test. Rohit Sharma recently appointed T20I’s new captain, fought for the captaincy role in the first Test. But the veteran has been resting throughout the series.

Despite admitting to liking Basman Rahain, his test score average has dropped over the past two years due to some great hits, including this century in Melbourne last December.

“They chose Ajinkya Rahane as captain. But the truth is too, let’s face it, there was a question of whether he was selected for the final Test against England when the game happened,” he said on his YouTube Channel. As much as I love Ajinkya Rahane, the average is just going down. Sure, there was a strange intonation between them. But the average had dropped by 20 points in the last two years. Rahane’s average has never fallen so low.”

The veteran cricketer believes that although his master’s half-century saved him from relegation. New Zealand’s record will be crucial to his career, also he needs to run to retain his place in the team.

“If he hadn’t spent half a century at Lord’s, partnering Pujara in the second inning. It would have been an added point of discussion when you have to find Ajju’s replacement. When Rohit Sharma became vice-captain and Ajinkya could be warned. But then he was made captain, ” he said.
