Rajpal Yadav Opens Up About Nawazuddin Calling His Home a ‘Langar’

Bollywood comedian Rajpal Yadav has finally broken his silence on a heartwarming anecdote shared by actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who had once described Rajpal’s Mumbai home as a “langar” — a community kitchen where no one went hungry — for struggling artists trying to make their mark in the film industry.

Rajpal Credits Nawazuddin, Not Himself

In a candid interview with UP Tak, Rajpal set the record straight, generously redirecting the credit back to Nawazuddin. He recalled that during those early days, nearly 10 to 15 actors from different states would gather under one roof, sharing meals and laughter regardless of who had work. Rajpal insisted that the food and hospitality were not his doing alone — it was Nawazuddin’s home and Nawazuddin’s spirit that truly nurtured the group. He described his co-star’s gesture of crediting him as an act of “nobility,” while humbly refusing to claim the praise for himself.

Nawazuddin had originally spoken about Rajpal’s warmth in an interview with The Lallantop, noting that when Rajpal began finding success, he never turned anyone away and always ensured people were fed. The two actors share a bond rooted in their training at the Bharatendu Natya Academy in Lucknow and the National School of Drama in New Delhi.

Film Fraternity Rallies Behind Rajpal During Crisis

The touching exchange resurfaced at a particularly difficult time for Rajpal, who was released from Tihar Jail on February 17 after being lodged there in connection with a Rs 9-crore cheque-bounce case. He had surrendered on February 5 after the Delhi High Court rejected his plea for more time to repay the dues. His sentence was later suspended until March 18, providing him temporary relief.

During this challenging period, several prominent Bollywood names — including Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn, David Dhawan, Sonu Sood, Guru Randhawa, and Mika Singh — stepped forward with financial assistance. Speaking to NDTV, Rajpal expressed deep gratitude, saying “thank you” felt too small a gesture for people who had stood by him since the very beginning of his cinematic journey.

The story of Rajpal and Nawazuddin is ultimately one of enduring friendship, mutual respect, and the unspoken code of loyalty that often binds artists who once struggled together.
