Rakesh Jhunjhunwala had a vision of Bollywood movies

“Rakesh Jhunjhunwala had the dream to back a movie like English Vinglish at a time when many in the industry were hesitant to do so.” R. Balki

Today, India awoke to the tragic news of Rakesh Jhunjhunwala untimely death. The well-known investor died early Sunday morning, August 14, at 62. He gained a following due to his achievements in the fields of stocks and investing. However, many people are unaware that Rakesh Jhunjhunwala had a Bollywood connection.

Rakesh Jhunjhunwala is credited as a producer of four films: Sridevi’s English Vinglish (2012), Amitabh Bachchan, and Dhanush’s Shamitabh (2015), Arjun Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Ki & Ka (2016), and Akshay Kumar’s social drama Pad Man.

Rakesh Jhunjhunwala revealed how he got into the movie business and his association with R Balki in an interview with news some years ago.

“I find films exciting,” he said, “and I happened to meet Balki and liked his movies, Cheeni Kum (2007) also Paa” (2018). But, more than that, I thought he was a lovely man.”

“We judge a company, buy the stock, also leave it to management,” he said. I like the man, his movies, and he is from the business world. I’m afraid of bad relationships, not of losing money. On the other side, I am aware that the film industry is not a particularly healthy environment.

Rakesh Jhunjhunwala has also appeared in two unreleased R Balki films. One of them is Chup, starring Sunny Deol or Pooja Bhatt, Dulquer Salmaan, and Shreya Dhanwanthary. Ghoomer, starring Abhishek Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, also Saiyami Kher, is the other film.

R Balki spoke exclusively to Bollywood News about his memories with him, saying, “He was a great partner. I met him at a party following the release of Cheeni Kum. He gave me his business card and said he’d like to work with me. I didn’t know who he was. I only found out later!”
