Ranveer Singh Faces Legal Case for Insulting Daiva Tradition

Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh is embroiled in a legal controversy after a complaint was lodged against him at Bengaluru’s High Grounds Police Station. The complaint alleges that Singh insulted the sacred Daiva tradition by mimicking the performance from Rishab Shetty’s film Kantara Chapter 1 during his stage address at the International Film Festival of India’s closing ceremony on November 28 in Goa.

Allegations and Legal Action

Bengaluru-based advocate Prashanth Metal filed the complaint, stating that Ranveer Singh referred to the Daiva as a “demon” and “female ghost” while recreating Rishab Shetty’s Ullalthi Daiva performance. The advocate claims these descriptions were derogatory and offensive to the religious beliefs of millions, particularly the Tulu-speaking community of Karnataka. The legal complaint has been filed under Sections 299, 302, and 196 of the Bharat Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, accusing the actor of making disrespectful remarks about the sacred cultural practice.

Singh’s Public Apology

Following backlash on social media, Ranveer Singh issued a public apology via Instagram, clarifying his intentions. He stated that he was simply highlighting Rishab Shetty’s incredible performance and admiring the actor’s skill in executing the challenging scene. Singh emphasized his deep respect for all cultures, traditions, and beliefs, and expressed regret if he hurt anyone’s sentiments.
